The purchase of solar panels is an expensive investment from which purchasers want to gain a maximum return. When the surface of solar panels become dirty or are covered with leaves or bird droppings, they will absorb less solar rays and their effectiveness drops 15 to 30%. 

The average annual power generated from a solar panel with a surface of 1m² is a little over 100 kWh. An average family uses yearly 3 to 4 thousand kWh so an installation with a surface of 35 to 45m² is necessary to produce this amount of electricity. However, this generating capacity can only be achieved with a regular maintenance of the solar panels. 

Depending on the contamination and the location of your solar panels, it is advisable that solar panels are cleaned twice a year. This will not only result in a higher power generation but it will also prolong the life of the solar panels and provide a improved appearance of the whole area of the roof and the solar panels mounted on it. 

As a producer of a wide array of cleaning chemicals, with more than 25 years of experience in cleaning both commercial and domestic atmospheric contamination, WVT Industries has developed, in cooperation with a renowned supplier of solar panels, a chemical cleaning product called SCF Cleaner. Extensive testing has proved that the commonly used method of cleaning solar panels with only “reverse osmosis-water” produced a less effective result than when SCF Cleaner is used. 

SCF Cleaner is a liquid, concentrated cleaning chemical with an exceptional high percentage of active ingredients that is 100% biologically degradable and leaves no residue on the different parts of the photovoltaic panels. This formulation of the product was specifically developed for obtaining an optimum cleaning result. 


  • The high concentration of active ingredients in SCF Cleaner makes its use very economical. 5 litres of SCF Cleaner is able to clean 175 – 250 m² of solar panels.

Depending on the type and amount of the contamination, SCF Cleaner can be diluted preferably with water that is warm (max 40° C). A typical dilution of 5 – 10% SCF Cleaner with 90 – 95 % water will provide an optimum result. Apply SCF Cleaner with a scratch-free sponge or soft brush. Do not let it dry the solution dry but immediately rinse thoroughly with a garden hose (at low pressure) until all of the SCF Cleaner is removed. To avoid chemical streaking do not clean in direct sunlight or hot weather. 

For larger or industrial surfaces (more than 350 m²) SCF Cleaner can be applied by means of a Quick Intervention Unit. This is a low pressure (max 4 bar) micro spraying device that will generate foam in conjunction with the chemical application, for a period of 20 minutes before a refill is required. SCF Cleaner and the Quick Intervention Unit deliver a foam carpet which improves the effectiveness of the product for both horizontal and vertical surfaces. This form of application minimises the need for brushing or rubbing. In all applications the cleaning chemical must be applied diluted. 

WVT Industries offers all distributors the possibility of marketing this product under their own Private Label with a minimum purchase of SCF Cleaner as follows - 90 x 5 ltrs, 40 x 10 ltrs or 10 x 25 ltrs.

It is recommended that the surface to be cleaned or treated should initially be tested with a small amount of the selected chemical in a non-critical area, to determine if any adverse reaction takes place.
